The best time to travel in the Caribbean is November – May, during the dry season. During this time of year, hurricanes historically are not active. The sun shines all day, and the warm weather is a perfect reason to get away from cold temperatures. Your tribe should consider sailing to neighboring islands to get familiar with the local vibe.

Cuba

Isn’t Cuba hard to get into, you ask? Not at all! There are specific entry requirements; learn more about those here.

Your group must explore all the famous sites of Havana while having tons of new experiences. You can ride on the Malecón in a 1950s classic Chevy. Visit Hotel Nacional at dusk to socialize and witness a majestic sunset. Be sure to check out a local Jazz or Salsa club. Stay at least five nights to visit Viñales and explore the tobacco fields and cool caves.

Indulge in the local cuisine, which is a blend of Spanish, African, and other Caribbean cuisine. Traditional Cuban cuisine consists of meat, rice, yucca, and plantains. Let’s not forget the drinks; Cuba is the home of the Mojito!

Saint Lucia

St. Lucia is famous for its fantastic scenery and beaches. St Lucia does not have a crazy party scene, so your tribe will enjoy a low key vacation.

First, let’s discuss where to stay. Why not book a one, two, or three-bedroom luxury villa suite with private terrace and views overlooking Rodney Bay and a stunning view of the Pitons? Antigua

Antigua (pronounced An-tee’ ga) is more than a tiny island nation. While only 13 miles across and 108 total square miles, this island is perfect for exploring with your girls. Check into Galley Bay Resort & Spa, which has a laid back vibe. The resort is adult-only and all-inclusive, so its the perfect start to your girls’ trip.

While on the beautiful Caribbean island, there are lots of things to experience. Visit the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda or take a day trip to the little sister island of Barbuda. If you love nature, hike up Mount Obama (yep, named after President Barack Obama). Or take your passport and hop the ferry to another country. Just a short 2-hour ferry ride away (or 20-minute flight by seaplane) is the island of Montserrat. Rent a car for a day and see the entire island. Visit Cades Bay Agricultural Station to learn why “Antigua Black” or black pineapples are said to be the sweetest in the world.

Cartagena, Colombia

Cartagena is a perfect choice because your tribe can have both a city and beach vacation in one. You will be in awe by the historic stone-walled old city of Cartegena, the colorful architecture, and the unique Colombian culture.

Stay at Hotel Tcherassi or Allure Chocolat. Both hotels are located within the old city, close to the historic parts of the town, and the picturesque streets.  Take a walking tour where you can explore the old city and see the Grafitti Art in Getsemani, churches, squares, and learn the history of the city.

Cartagena has a huge street food scene. Be sure to take a street food tour. Pick up some cheese-filled arepas, empanadas, local fruit, local cheese, and frozen treats. You must end the day by watching the sunset at Cafe del Mar, then dance the night away with your girls at Cafe Havana.

Outside of the walled city, there is still much to do. Take a day tour visit the mud volcano for a mud bath lunch and visit the Pink Sea. If you all don’t want to get all muddy, take a tour of Palenque, a town established by runaway slaves with African roots where we learn about music, dance, culture, way of living, customs, and beliefs. Learn to play the drums and learn how the hairstyles of the local women played a very important role in their way to freedom. No girlfriend getaway to Cartagena is complete without taking a day trip to Islas Rosario and lounging on the beach.

British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands is certainly a sailor’s paradise. Separated from the US Virgin Islands by a small channel, it’s very easy to sail between the islands of both US VI and BVI. Just remember, a passport is needed for US citizens to enter the British Virgin Islands. The ease of island hopping is why BVI is another perfect destination for a girl’s getaway.

Check into Oil Nut Bay Resort on Virgin Gorda and stay villa ranging from two – six bedrooms. While Oil Nut Bay Resort is not an all-inclusive resort, enjoy dining at one of the restaurants on property or spring for a private chef preparing meals in your private villa. Enjoy serious downtime around the community or in your villa. Take time to go island hopping and make sure you visited some spots like The Baths, Saba Rock Lounge, and Willy T Bar.
